The Green Train
through southern Africa
Make
this your year to discover southern Africa aboard the famous Green Train. The
Green Train commenced service in 1907, running from what was then Salisbury,
Rhodesia (now Harare, Zimbabwe) to Cape Town, a journey of almost 2000
kilometers. It soon gained fame as the fastest way to travel across southern
Africa. By the 1930s it was also renowned as one of the world's most
luxurious trains and the journey was considered one of the world's most
spectacular. In the 1980s, service between Harare and Johannesburg was
suspended but the train continued to run between Johannesburg and Cape Town.
This year the Green Train connects Cape Town and Harare once more. You will
travel for three days and two nights across mountains, savannah, desert -
almost every kind of terrain imaginable. And you'll do it all in
air-conditioned comfort and unsurpassed luxury. The train travels during
daylight hours only, making overnight stops in Bulawayo, Pilgrim's Rest, and
Port Elizabeth, so you will miss none of the breathtaking landscapes.
